Do you have to be flexible to start Yoga?
No, being flexible is not a prerequisite for doing Yoga. It’s not about successfully achieving a pose or ‘asana,’ but rather developing a quality of movement.
Although flexibility is one of many benefits of Yoga, it is not the main purpose of Yoga.
The purpose of Yoga is about connecting your breath with your body through movement to bring you to the present moment. This presence of mind means that you have more capacity to focus on the rest of your day or wind-down from a stressful day.
Who is Yoga for?
Yoga is for everyone. Yoga is not a competition and comparing yourself to others is unhelpful. Along with support from our Yoga teachers, Yoga can be adjusted to be as hard or easy as you want to make it, it’s all about finding the right balance for you.
What does Yoga help with?
- Mobility - activation of lesser-used muscles
- Flexibility - lengthening through muscle activation and relaxation
- Strength - a whole-body workout for muscle tone
- Concentration - balance takes focus
- Coordination - dynamic transitions between movements
- Mindfulness - observational awareness along with the breath
